Nine Bhakti Processes
In bhakti-yoga it is recommended that a devotee follows nine principles; sravanam kirtanam visnoh smaranam
pada-sevanam arcanam vandanam dasyam sakhyam atma-nivedanam

Practicing Bhakti purifies our consciousness and makes us fit to revive our relationship with God. Krishna is all-
pure. We are now contaminated by material consciousness and must again become all-pure before we can
associate with Him.

The authorized spiritual practices laid out by Lord Krishna are sure to bring success to the sincere practitioner.
The Srimad-Bhagavatam lists these nine Bhakti practices as follows:

1.
Sravanam - Hearing about Krishna.
2.
Kirtanam - chanting the Holy Names of Krishna.
3.
Smaranam - remembering Krishna.
4.
Pada-sevanam - attachment to the Lotus feet of the Lord.
5.
Arcanam - worship of the deity.
6.
Vandanam – offering obeisances or offering prayers.
7.
Dasyam – servitorship.
8.
Sakhyam - friendship.
9.
Atma-nivedam – surrendering everything to the Lord.

To bear fruit, these practices must be performed under the guidance of a pure teacher, an advanced devotee of
Sri Krishna.
